I recently read that the latest lunar space suits would be designed to allow days of sustained exploration. I thought of another alternative to achieve the same goal. The explorers on earth utilize mules on their expeditions. The extraterrestrial explorers can utilize rovers and handcarts.
Extraterrestrial rover would have a pressurized cabin for the astronauts to rest and fulfill their humanitarian needs. It would have large extended solar panels to charge itself and provide power to the astronauts. It would carry the food, water and additional oxygen supply. Additionally, it would have a section for quick emergency first aid.
In addition to the rover, the astronauts would drag a handcart which would carry spare batteries and life support systems. The handcart would also house some test equipment as well as power tools to extract samples. Additionally, it would have quick repair kits for the damaged space suits.
From the specifications I defined, it is better to have a lunar lander that can move instead of a need to carry an additional rover. Lunar lander rover does not need to move fast, but should be able to give life support to the astronauts in close proximity.
