This one was an old idea. I wanted to record it as well. With so many different AC plugs globally, there is a need for standardized power plug for low power electronics. At the moment USB is used for this purpose and it is a mass. The plug I propose is only for power transfer not for data communication. It is a classic barrel type plug. They can be plugged in any orientation with grounded outside for safety. The major difference is the insulator layer which is not a black plastic but a light transparent insulator. The purpose of it is low bandwidth optical communication. When there is no load on the plug, the output voltage defaults to 3.3V. Once the plug is inserted into a socket, the socket send signal over the optical section to adjust the voltage. The current limit as well as voltage can be set by the receiving end. As a result, the power adaptor utilizing this plug can provide up to 50 volts to an electronics device. It is a more versatile and future proof system compared to resistively set chaotic standards of USB. It is best to send power and data separately over dedicated cables. There can be special combo cables that have both cables attached side by side for convenience. For data communication I opt for optical instead of copper cables.
